Education

I was a professional educator with the Brandywine School District.

Listing of degrees, certifications and diplomas may be found on my résumé page.

Additionally, pictures of credentials and transcripts may be found on my testimonials page.

Knowledge is Power

As a devote student of life, I spend time studying and learning each day. Listed here are just a few formal certifications, but I continually learn new facts and ideas primarily through diverse reading, educational television and conferences. I have always strived to maintain and exceed all levels of professional development. More courses and skills are on my career page.

Throughout my career, I continually keep relevant by engaging in business learning materials such as books, magazines, white papers, trade journals, seminars, webinars and MOOCs. I attend industry meetings, conferences, conventions and expos.

Education has been vital for all my ventures and entrepreneurial pursuits. There are many facets to running a business that include team building, creative planning, logistics, operations, training, regulatory compliance, budgeting, scheduling, data analysis and financial forecasting.

Professionally, I was an educator with the Brandywine School District even writing curriculum for the Department of Education. I have since become very proficient in the eLearning industry.

I did a thesis on theme park learning. I met with both the CEO and Vice President of SeaWorld Parks and Entertainment regarding my training and development proposal. I have also engaged many times with the Realizeit learning platform for other top theme park training applications.

I have worked with retail sales training sites as a user for Google, Apple, Microsoft, AMD, HP, Intel, Samsung, Western Digital, Best Buy and Sears. I have utilized other learning management platforms such as Coursera, Premium Retail, CyberScholar and SellPro. I am a member of The Learning Guild and subscribe to trade magazines and newsletters including eLearning Industry.

More recently, I attended in-person:

• Learning Solutions Conference & Expo c/o The Learning Guild (MEMBER) in Orlando, FL (April 2022)
• Association for Talent Development International Conference and Expo in Orlando, FL (May 2022)

I recently attended a virtual event:

• Leader Talk: Training a Global Workforce c/o Training Industry (April 2024)

I regularly read news briefs via email subscription from S2Mtraining, Tech & Learning, Training Industry, Teachable, and Learning Solutions c/o The Learning Guild.

Then & Now

In my own lifetime, I have experienced the many changes of modern technology. I am glad to have been in college just before the digital explosion (I have been a fan of the annual Beloit Mindset List). I learned how to do many things ‘manually’ which often required more skill and thought. Below is my personal list of things I have done then and now.

THEN: Drove a stick shift

NOW: Driving with automatic transmission

THEN: Learned to type on a manual typewriter

NOW: Typing on a computer keyboard

THEN: Edited video on tape cartridges (linear)

NOW: Editing video digitally (non-linear)

THEN: Edited audio on 1/4″ reel tape by cut & splice

NOW: Editing sound digitally with Pro Tools

THEN: Developed pictures in a darkroom with chemicals (35mm SLR film camera)

NOW: Utilizing digital photography and Adobe Lightroom, Corel PaintShop Pro and other editing software

THEN: Used 35mm slides or transparencies for presentations, graphics done by hand

NOW: Using Microsoft PowerPoint, Apple Keynote, Google Slides

THEN: Used Rand McNally maps to find directions

NOW: Using GPS via smart phone to navigate

THEN: Filed papers in folders within a cabinet

NOW: Archiving to hard disk, cloud storage

THEN: Handwritten notes in cursive

NOW: Communicating through electronic devices, Microsoft One Note

Lifetime of Learning

I have read many instructional manuals and do-it-yourself (DIY) books. As a boy, I would always read the manuals to electronics and consumer products. While in elementary school, I was able to sit in on a college class with my father. I even submitted a paper to his college professor. Today, I still enjoy applying what I have learned. Although not a certified professional, I have successfully completed many projects in plumbing, carpentry, masonry, tile flooring, drywall repair, fixture replacement, landscaping, electrical, interior/exterior painting and smart home upgrade installation. My paternal grandfather and handyman inspired my diverse toolbox. My maternal grandmother was a librarian who always gifted books.
